2.3. Settled in Nature
After Wordsworth settled down and lived in seclusion in the lakeside, he entered his creation peak. During this period, he published together with Samuel Coleridge the book Lyrical Ballads. In the period of traveling period to Germany he wrote the masterpiece Lucy which reflected the English country life. His large and philosophical autobiographical poem The Prelude was started to take up the pen. From 1800 to 1805, was the high production period of Wordsworth’s creation which was called as “the period of Dove Cottage ". In 1802, Lyrical Ballads was published the second edition, Wordsworth had written a well-known preface for this edition, elaborated his viewpoint in poetry creation aspect. In the short five years, Wordsworth had written innumerable poems. In 1807, he published two volumes of his majority works of these years with the title Poems in Two Volumes, altogether collected 113 poems of the poet’s newly works. These 113 poems were various from their themes and forms to their content and length, which expressed by the colorful appearances of the poet’s kinds of experiences to nature’s wonderful charm and the vibrato of the poet’s immersing in the childhood’s illusion. At the same time, his autobiographical poem The Prelude was finished. After 1807 Wordsworth entered his later period of poetry creation. His creation inspiration dried up day by day, but what contrast with this is, his was famous day by day. People continuous visited him for advice, because his poems were really liked by readers in particular youth reader. Just like the renowned critic Thomas De Quincey said that, "In 1820, the name of Wordsworth was stepped by the people under their feet, from 1820 to 1830, this name was a fight name, from 1830 to 1835, this was already a name of victory."(De Quincey,235) In 1840, Wordsworth succeeded Robert Southey (1774-1843) as English poet laureate. Seven years later, on April 23, 1850, this great poet passed away.
From the above, we may draw this kind of conclusion: Wordsworth had been born in nature, deeply loved nature; he was converted to nature, his poetry creation was deeply inspired by nature; His growth process is the process of unceasingly thorough understanding nature, is the process of gradually be converted to nature. His life is a life naturally fused with nature. His poetry is originated from nature, also melted with nature.
